Volunteering
Volunteering with us typically involves a range of tasks, from animal care to visitor engagement. Volunteers often assist with cleaning enclosures, preparing food, and providing enrichment activities for the animals. They also play a role in educating visitors about the animals.
Potential responsibilities:
- Animal Care: involves loving and caring for all our animals.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: This includes cleaning animal enclosures, scrubbing water and food bowls, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the park and The Barn.
- Feeding: Volunteers may help prepare and distribute food to the animals, following specific dietary guidelines.
- Enrichment: Creating and providing engaging activities for the animals, such as puzzle feeders or toys, to stimulate their natural behaviors.
- Visitor Engagement: Volunteers may interact with visitors, answering questions about the animals, and during holiday periods may help with walkabouts.
- Paddock Play: Ensure children are safe and feel secure with the larger animals.
- Age Restrictions: You can only apply to be a volunteer if you are over 15 years old.
- Commitment: Volunteers may be asked to commit to a certain number of hours per week or month.
- Physical Demands: Some roles may involve physical labor, such as lifting or carrying items.
- Emotional Impact: Volunteering with us can be emotionally rewarding but also challenging, particularly when dealing with sick or injured animals or when animals are adopted or pass away.
